Dual Studies

Study on-campus while gaining work experience at a cooperating company – 20|20 each week

Dual Studies

One of the most important success factors for companies is practically trained employees with business expertise. A practice-integrated dual study program at VICTORIA teaches you the fundamental areas of business administration, economics and law, methods of scientific work, as well as foreign languages and intercultural skills in dialog-oriented teaching formats. Theory and practice are optimally coordinated so that you will be fit for the working world or a master’s degree after graduating with a bachelor’s degree – regardless of which of our dual study programs you choose.

Your opportunities with the practice-integrated dual study program at VICTORIA:

  • You study with a strong practical focus in one of our cooperating companies.
  • The split-week model allows you to immediately apply what you have learned in practice, because you study 20 hours each week at the university and work 20 hours each week at the cooperating company.
  • Your tuition fees will be paid in part or in full by the cooperating company.
You can already gain professional experience during your studies.
  • A dual study program at VICTORIA increases your chances of getting a job offer immediately after graduation or you will be taken on directly by your cooperation company.

Study Plan

On which days do the courses take place?

In Dual Studies and Classic Studies, the courses (20 hours per week) take place on two fixed, consecutive weekdays. The exact study days are determined promptly before the start of the semester and communicated to the students.

Are there any bridge courses (e.g. in math) before you start your studies?

At the present time, no bridge courses are offered at VICTORIA. If demand is high enough, such courses could possibly be offered in the future. As a rule, however, the Abitur / Fachabitur level is sufficient to enter the interdisciplinary courses and to be able to follow the lessons.

Are there any tutoring courses (e.g. in math) during your studies?

Tutorials can be organized upon request. Please contact the university management for this. In addition, students can form study groups among themselves and contact their lecturers if they have questions or problems. The lecturers or staff members of the study organization can arrange external tutors if necessary.

Does the study program include a stay/ semester abroad?

A stay abroad is currently not part of the curriculum of our degree programs. However, you can complete a stay abroad (as a semester or internship abroad) within your studies within the framework of ERASMUS+ or through one of our cooperating universities abroad. For more detailed information, please contact our International Office.

The German-language programs Business Administration (B.A.), Computer Science and Management (B.Sc.) and Business Management & Development (M.A.) do not include a stay abroad. However, if you would like to spend a semester abroad during your studies, you can apply for a semester off.

In the English-language International Management B.A. program, a semester abroad is an integral part of the course of study.

When can I change the study model?

At the end of each semester, you can change the study model within a study program by applying to the examination office. This may change your tuition fees (amount and/or transfer/self-payment). You can find an overview of all fees here.

Will my study duration be extended if I change models?

No, the models are coordinated so that your study duration is not extended by a change.

What are the types of examinations / certificates of achievement?

Examinations during the course of study can be written examinations, presentations, seminar papers/homework, practical work, business games, presentations, projects and (language) tests. The exact type of examinations depends on the course of study and progress.

Which companies does VICTORIA cooperate with?

You can find a selection of our cooperating companies here. Please note that this is only a reference list in which not all of our cooperation companies are listed. Please do not apply directly to the cooperation companies on the list (unless it is explicitly noted). As a rule, the cooperation companies have commissioned VICTORIA with the pre-selection of applicants.

If I apply for Dual Studies at VICTORIA, does that automatically mean that I will be placed at one of the VICTORIA cooperating companies?

No, placement cannot be guaranteed. VICTORIA first checks the application documents. If the documents are complete and the admission requirements are met, the application will be forwarded to one or more of our cooperation companies. It is not automatically guaranteed that your application will be considered or forwarded to a specific VICTORIA cooperation company. The decision on the allocation of dual study places in the company is made by the cooperation company itself. VICTORIA decides on your admission to the university.

Can I also look for a cooperating company by myself?

Yes, in principle you should also apply to companies on your own initiative. If you bring a company with you, this increases your chances of getting a dual study program place at VICTORIA.

Does the company already have to be a cooperating company of VICTORIA?

No, you can also look for and propose new companies that can then become VICTORIA cooperation companies, provided they meet VICTORIA’s criteria.

How do I find a suitable company?

For the cooperating companies listed on our website, the placement goes through VICTORIA (unless it is explicitly stated that direct applications are welcome). Most of our cooperating companies are interested in new applicants who would start there as first semester students at the beginning of the next semester or the semester after. Dual students who are already studying can only be referred by VICTORIA in exceptional cases, if a cooperation company is explicitly looking for students from higher semesters. The main responsibility for finding a new cooperation company therefore lies with you. However, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the VICTORIA Student Services.

What requirements must the company meet?

The company must prove that the students are deployed in all relevant areas during their dual study program and that they have access to company contact persons. In addition, the company must follow the VICTORIA framework plan for the respective course of study or specialization. More detailed information on this is available to companies on request from the Student and Company Service.

Is it possible to change the cooperating company in Dual Studies?

It is actually intended that you remain in a cooperation company for the entire duration of your studies. If there are problems between you and your cooperation company or if you no longer want to or can work there for other reasons, VICTORIA’s Student Services will be happy to talk to you personally. You can discuss your situation and look for solutions together with us. Termination should only be the last step when all other options have been exhausted. In principle, however, you can change your cooperation company during your studies. In this case, you would have to look for a new cooperation company on your own and/or contact us within the given period. Please note that you are not allowed to be without a cooperation company for a long period of time so that you do not lose your dual student status. If you do not find a new cooperating company, you also have the possibility to change to the full-time presence or distance learning model at the beginning of the new semester. This would not extend the duration of your studies at VICTORIA.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at VICTORIA’s Student and Company Services. If you would like to have a personal consultation with us, please come to our open office hours in Berlin on Wednesdays from 14:00 – 16:00 or make an appointment with us.

How do I find a new cooperating company if I want to change?

For the cooperating companies listed on our website, the placement goes through VICTORIA (unless it is explicitly stated that direct applications are welcome). Most of our cooperating companies are interested in new applicants who would start there as first semester students at the beginning of the next semester or the semester after. Dual students who are already studying can only be referred by VICTORIA in exceptional cases if a cooperation company is explicitly looking for students from higher semesters.
