Erasmus+

Did you graduate from high school abroad?

Our International Office will support you with any questions or concerns related to studying abroad.

Erasmus+

The VICTORIA was awarded the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education in May 2015. This enables VICTORIA students, within the Erasmus+ framework, to study abroad for a semester at a partner university or to complete an internship at a company abroad. VICTORIA graduates can also use the Erasmus+ Programme to do an internship abroad after they’ve completed their studies.

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport. Erasmus+ combines previous EU programmes for learning, youth and sport as well as cooperations at the university level into one programme. The programme has three key actions:

Key action 1 – Mobility of individuals, including for study, work experience and teaching opportunities

Key action 2 – Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices

Key action 3 – Support for policy reform

Erasmus+ has a budget of around 14,8 billion euro. More than four million people will have benefited from these EU funds by 2020. The seven-year programme aims to improve competencies and employability, modernise general and professional education systems and advance child and youth welfare. You can find more information about the Erasmus+ Programme on the European Commission’s website or in the Erasmus+ flyer.

Erasmus+ for students

The funds primarily boost mobility within Europe, but since 2015 mobility in other parts of the world has also been supported to a smaller extent. By 2020, around four million students will have benefited from Erasmus+, with more than a quarter million of them coming from Germany. This incorporates students in all study cycles up to and including the doctorate level, partial studies or an internship abroad.

For the first time, students can be funded for up to 12 months during their bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral studies. To increase the financial incentive for studying abroad, the mobility allowance has been raised for students, especially those who go to countries with a higher cost of living. Internships abroad are now also possible after graduation. Finally, Erasmus+ offers students who want to complete an entire master’s degree in Europe the possibility to take out a low-interest loan. Erasmus+ continues the funding for academic excellence, previously under Erasmus Mundus, that funds excellent students in selected European master’s programmes with a joint degree or multiple degrees as outcomes.

The Erasmus+ app provides students with regular information and also accompanies them every step of the way during their stay abroad.

Erasmus+ for universities

Erasmus+ also contributes to further internationalisation of universities by funding short-term lectureships and research or training trips for teaching or administrative personnel. Additionally, universities can invite businesspeople from abroad as visiting teachers and higher education institutions can take part in multilateral strategic partnerships and develop projects together with other European partners – including from outside of the academic sphere. For cooperations with industry, Erasmus+ offers funding for new knowledge alliances.

Higher education institutions that want to expand their capacity outside of the EU can do so within the Framework of the programme´s international university partnerships.

The programme´s financing

The funds for most of the mobility measures and strategic partnerships come from the relevant national agencies in the 33 programme countries (28 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of Macedonia, Norway, Turkey). In Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will continue to manage this task.
Under the EU education programme Erasmus+, the following mobility measures are supported:

  • Student mobility for studies (SMS)
  • Student mobility of placement (SMP), including internships abroad
  • Staff mobility for teaching assignments (STA)
  • Staff mobility for training (STT)

Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) / European Policy Statement (EPS)

Every higher education institution that takes part in the EU programme for general and professional education, youth and sport 2014–2020 must have a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). The ECHE is awarded by the European Commission and proves that an institution meets all the requirements for successful participation in the Erasmus+ Programme.

Pursuant to the European Commission’s specifications, participating institutions must publish the ECHE and the European Policy Statement (EPS) on their website.  Both documents are available as PDFs in our download section below.

An overview of the application process

Your application for an Erasmus+ exchange to the VICTORIA is processed by the Erasmus+ coordinators at your home institution. If your application for an Erasmus+ study place was successful, your home institution will then nominate you for an Erasmus+ exchange to the VICTORIA. After your home institution has nominated you, we’ll send you application forms for the VICTORIA by email. Please submit the completed forms on time according to the deadlines that follow.

  • For the summer semester: 15 February of the same year
  • For the winter semester: 15 August of the same year Applications that are either incomplete or late can unfortunately not be considered.
  • After you’ve submitted your application, we’ll contact you about your course selection. You’ll receive information about the seminars and lectures that you as an exchange student can enrol in at the VICTORIA. Subsequently, you need to complete an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement with your Erasmus+ coordinator. Please also send us a copy of the agreement.
